january 16, 2008 - in the studio
After taking nearly a year of investing in studio gear and experimenting with it all, I started recording a few weeks ago. It’s been a challenge to start from scratch with new software and gear, but it's worth fighting the small battles now.

In my first few sessions, I’ve really tried to be open to new micing possibilities and instrument tones—just trying to match the right sound to the vibe of each tune. So I've tracked several "scratch" or test takes for each song to experiment with building an arrangement—rather than taking an arrangement straight from a live take or what I’ve scribbled on paper. That's given me a range of production ideas.

I'm in the process of narrowing down songs for a solo album. There are around 22 tunes on the "potential" list, with a serious 10-14 that will make it to press. We’ll see what happens—there’s a long road ahead!
